Program outline

The program includes three sections  (A, B & C) for a complete finalization as a CFAP.

SECTION A
Food Addiction Assessment and Treatment Course

Using the Food Addiction Assessment and Treatment Workbook, based on ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) validated treatment protocol for „best practices“, students learn about screening, assessment and intake, treatment planning, counceling, case managing, crisis intervention, education, refferal, records and record keeping, consultation, professional growth, the addictive personality and codependancy.

The course ends with an open book exam.

SECTION B
Treatment and Recovery Practicum

Students participate in an 8 week outpatient treatment program. Learning by doing. Program students are joined by clients seeking treatment. The Practicum will cover biology and psycology of food addiction, brain chemistry, food addiction within the addiction framework, food chemistry and triggers, stages of recovery, treatment, withdrawal, relapse, self-care actions, peer groups, recovery tools and additional resources for developing a support network for ongoing recovery.

Takeaway: Each participant develops a customized abstinence plan introducing daily practices, accountability, and support with a structured food plan, recovery actions and check-ins.

SECTION C
Final Project and Presentation

Students prepare a project of their own choosing to present for their fellow students (30 min power point presentation). This can be a research project, a lecture on food addiction or a presentation of a complete program for a client.

  • Statement of Intent & Goals
  • Application Interview with Director Esther Helga. After submitting your application to the program, you will receive an email from Esther, inviting you for an application interview before you can be fully accepted into the program.

When you have been accepted into the program, you will receive a 24/7 access to the Moodle Student platform where all material for the courses are set up for you:

  • A Student Manual with reading material, prerecorded lectures for each chapter, excersices amd assignments as well as a discussion forum for students.
  • Recordings and teaching material from the Expert Teachers and Lecturers.
  • All sessions are recorded and can be downloaded and viewed at any time.

Certification

The course ends with an online certification ceremony were each student is presented with INFACT Certification for completion of the course and the European Certification Board Certificate as a Food Addiction Professional (CFAP).
